Explanation of Work:
I’ve seen a lot of photos that take a place that is familiar and make it look abstract and alien. I take scenes that are familiar and show that they contain beauty and joy. I don’t want my viewers to say, “It must be interesting to visit places like that and meet people like that,” rather, I want them to say, “I do live in a place like that and I know people like that!”
I want to open people’s eyes to the beauty in the familiar. My aim is not to criticize or remake the world; it is to defend it in all its glorious and frustrating diversity.
The things I want to show would be distorted by cold analysis or maudlin sentimentality. Either approach would hide, rather than reveal, the things that I see and want to convey to others. |
